CYP Program
The Chapter Youth Program (CYP) - AMC response to "No Child Left Inside"
Volunteer CYP Leaders can assist youth groups with opportunities for hiking, nature walks, conservation and many other outdoor skills.
An ‘agency’ (youth group) must have prior approval from AMC. At this time, our chapter has obtained three approved agencies. We are currently working to complete plans for our first outing. (Each outing must be thoroughly planned and have prior approval from AMC.)
The Worcester and New York-North New Jersey Chapters have active Chapter Youth Programs which have been in existence for a couple of years. Other chapters, including SEM, are working to get their programs off the ground.
An exciting Leave No Trace (LNT) grant is underway for all CYP Chapters. One person will be trained in activities geared toward children and families. S/he will then provide this training to CYP Leaders in each chapter. As a result, LNT information and training will be available to children throughout each region.
CYP Leaders must complete these requirements:
- Be a Chapter Leader
- Complete CYP Leader Training and refresh every two years via a webinar.
- Complete First Aid and CPR (This requirement may change.)
- Successfully complete an interview and provide two references
- Complete 3 co-leads
- Annually complete a MA CORI (background check)
We welcome more CYP Leaders!
If you would like more information, please send an email to the CYP Chair listed below. If you would like to become a CYP Leader, you will need to first complete the training for Chapter Leader. (See Education for information about the next Chapter Leader training session.)Activity Participation Policy
"AMC encourages involvement in its mission and activities, through its membership, programs, policies and procedures. Our goal is to be a community that is comfortable, inviting and accessible for people of any age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.
Some AMC programs are designed for a certain age range of members or for a special activity or topic. However, any person who meets the minimum qualifications (skills, experience, fitness) established by the trip leader(s) for an activity is eligible to attend, if space is available."
